OFFICIALS ANNOUNCE BUSINESS AS USUAL THROUGHOUT THE CITY OF BRANSON

Branson, MO (May 4, 2017 1:29PM) – As of approximately 8:00AM this morning, Branson Fire Chief Ted Martin reported that the Army Corps of Engineers-Little Rock District decreased spillway releases, closing ten spillway gates to two feet, releasing 23,700 cubic feet per second in addition to the 10,000 CFS being released through the turbine generators. The total release is now 33,700 CFS as of 12:00PM, with Tablerock Lake elevation at 931.5.
Waters have receded in the Lake Taneycomo shoreline neighborhoods impacted by the rising waters earlier this week, improving access to areas within Lakewood Estates, Sunset Park and Alexander Park. The National Weather Service is predicting dry conditions through May 10 with temperatures rising as more sunshine is expected with breezy conditions on the backside of the departing low. Daily lake information can be obtained at www.swl-wc.usace.army.mil, or via the USACE Little Rock mobile app.
Effective immediately, the Branson Recycle Center has reopened, allowing citizen drop off at both the main processing facility on Compton Drive and the 24/7 drop off located at the Branson United Methodist Church on West Highway 76. Both sites were temporarily closed due to threat of flooding at the main processing facility.
Branson Fire Chief Ted Martin stated, “Branson is open for business and access to all neighborhoods has improved allowing residents to return to their homes. We are nearing the completion of damage estimates for both individuals impacted by the past weekend flood waters, as well as estimates for City of Branson infrastructure, streets, parks and other city resources. The temporary shelters closed today as residents return to their homes, and we are now moving into recovery stages to help those individuals requiring assistance to get back on their feet.”
Jeff Seifried, President of the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce communicated earlier today, “Those traveling into the Tri-Lakes region can expect to find that all businesses open, and all roadways are free and clear. For up to date information on statewide travel, please reference the Missouri Dept of Transportation website at www.modot.org, or call 888-275-6636 for automated updates regarding travel conditions in other parts of Missouri.”
As a reminder, residents and visitors are encouraged to STAY INFORMED via multiple information resources available through the City of Branson:
1. Social Media – For up to date news and weather information while visiting Branson and the Tri-Lakes region, follow the City of Branson social media updates posted at: www.Facebook.com/CityBranson, www.Facebook.com/BransonMOFireRescue, and www.Facebook.com/BransonPolice.
2. BransonALERTS now carries the option for users to subscribe to receive updates specific to Lake Taneycomo flooding. This is a free subscription service provided to all community members wherein users can select to receive updates via SMS/Text message to mobile devices, email, and automatic telephone calls. Visit http://mo-branson.civicplus.com/390/Branson-Alerts, then click the “Everbridge” option to get started. Select “Lake Taneycomo Emergencies” to receive flood-related updates.
3. Local media like Hometown Radio 106.3FM will broadcast updates as received from Branson Fire Rescue Emergency Management Division.
4. Residents and businesses are highly encouraged to use a NOAA Weather Radio within their homes or places of business as they continue to be the most reliable source for in-home information, and run on batteries during losses of power.
“Branson is a wonderful community in which to live, work and play, and we are so appreciative of all those volunteers who came out to help with filling and stacking sandbags when we put out the call for volunteers last weekend,” Chief Martin reiterated. “Because of the collaborative efforts of citizens and businesses, Branson was very well prepared to mitigate the threat of costly damages, and I believe we have a very solid flood emergency response model as demonstrated by the minimal impact to our community.”
Media inquiries may be directed to Jennifer Langford, City of Branson Communications Manager at JLangford@BransonMO.gov, or via text message at 417.337.0017 throughout the emergency period.
