Firefighters are well known for their famous firehouse cooking and this week area residents will be able to experience this while helping Branson area school children. The City of Branson firefighters will be hosting the “Steaks for Kids” fundraiser on Thursday, October 26 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Fire Station #2.
The firefighters will be grilling thin sliced ribeye steaks placed on a hoagie bun and topped with grilled onions and peppers. The meal will include a side of chips, drink and au jus for dipping your sandwich in. The profits from the $10 donation will benefit the Backpack Club.
“Our firefighters hosted this event for three years and the response became somewhat overwhelming as the fire station apparatus bays filled with area residents,” stated Branson Firefighter / Engineer Brien Reinke. “We kept hearing from our neighbors and friends how popular the event was and their desire to see it return as the fall season approaches,” added Reinke.
The event has been an opportunity for area citizens to visit the fire station, meet the firefighters, eat some great steak sandwiches and benefit a very special program in the community. “All of the proceeds will benefit the Back Pack Club, operated by the Gift of Hope, that works directly with Branson Schools to send back packs full of food for students in need to take home over the weekend,” stated Fire Chief Ted Martin. “Our Branson Schools have a great program to support kids providing a healthy breakfast and lunch on school days, and this program helps extend nutrition over the weekend,” added Martin.
“We are really thankful for the support of our firefighters who help prepare for the event and staff the grills. Additionally, this event would not be possible without the support of some very special sponsors including Rhodes Family Price Chopper, Coca Cola, Frito Lay, Royal Oak Charcoal, Vasken’s Deli, The Amish Store, Branson Rec Plex, Copy Run and the Sign Man,” stated Reinke.
Fire Station #2 is located at 251 Branson Meadows located just east of Gretna Road between Mitchem Tire and Wheel and the Branson Meadows Mall.
