Branson Adds Animal Control Officers

Branson residents and businesses will now notice that Branson Animal Control Officers or Patrol Officers will respond to their animal related calls.  Beginning on Jan. 1, 2018, the City of Branson assumed animal control services for all animal related calls within the city limits.  Until this time, these services had been handled by the Taney County Health Department.  Additionally, Taney County will now maintain the animal shelter that had previously been serviced by the Health Department.

City leadership is excited about this change as it will provide the opportunity for our animal control services to be aligned with Branson City values.

“Adding Animal Control Officers will provide for greater accountability for customer service to our residents and guests,” said Branson City Administrator, Stan Dobbins.

The Branson Police Department has hired two Animal Control Officers, who will be assigned to day shifts (8 am to 6 pm) that allow for coverage seven days a week. They have already had a busy week responding to several calls, including a call where one individual was bit, but not hurt by a camel!

For after-hours responses, Branson Police Officers will be dispatched to determine whether they can handle the call or if there is a need to call out the Animal Control Officer(s). Impounded animals will continue to be taken to the shelter on Critter Rd in Hollister.

For emergency animal calls, such as a vicious dog attack, residents should utilize 911 to summon immediate help.  For non-emergency calls, the public should contact police dispatch at 417-334-3300.
