City to Host Grand Re-opening of Emergency Operations Center

The City of Branson would like to welcome the public to attend a grand re-opening of its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) on Monday, June 4 from 3-6 pm. The Branson Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting at 3:30 pm. The EOC is located at Fire Station 1 at 110 Crosby Street.

The EOC serves as a central command center in times of large-scale incidents, severe weather or a disaster. Several departments and agencies utilize the EOC including City Department Directors, Emergency Management Partners, utility companies and non-governmental agencies including the Salvation Army and Red Cross.

The City equipped its first EOC in the late 1990’s that doubled as a conference room at Fire Station 1. It was paper driven, with lots of forms, limited space and a telephone. The remodeled EOC has upgraded electrical service, a back-up generator and new technology. Several computers and monitors now connect to the City’s computer system and allow direct communication with State and regional emergency management teams, the National Weather Service and a weather radar system.

The EOC remodel cost $12,500 and was funded by the City to enhance the operations of the center. The City got more “bang for its buck” by utilizing fire department staff to complete most of the work instead of hiring out contractors.

The EOC is a vital part of keeping Branson residents and visitors safe during emergencies. “Having space dedicated for this type of operation helped prepare the City to plan, respond and mitigate the effects of local disasters, especially flooding,” said Branson Fire Chief, Ted Martin.
