Branson Board Discussing Special Liquor Laws for Entertainment Districts, Including Landing

The Branson Board of Aldermen is considering asking the State of Missouri special permission for allowing open alcoholic drinks in designated outdoor areas in specified entertainment districts which include the downtown Landing.

In order to establish these type of alcohol regulations, the Board must first get permission from the State of Missouri in the form of a legislative proposal. The Board discussed the proposal at the November 15 study session.

The legislative proposal is currently drafted to resemble the one used for Kansas City’s Power & Light District. It would allow entertainment districts to receive a special license to sell liquor by the drink within a common area. However, the Board would have complete control over what the local ordinance would look like. This would include making special rules and regulations specific to the Branson community. These may include restricting times that people can have drinks outside, designated alcohol zones, wristbands for those who are drinking and increasing security. These measures will ensure the safety of all visitors while keeping in line with the Branson family values.

City officials believe this is in line with the Branson Community Plan 2030, and would be a great way to support and encourage the growth of the local economy, would set the stage for business development, job creation and foster a thriving entrepreneurial environment.

The Board of Aldermen will discuss this proposed resolution at their regular meeting on November 27, at 6:00 pm.
