Branson Police See Improvement in Alcohol Compliance Check Success Rate

BPD badge

The Branson Police Department conducted random alcohol compliance spot checks on December 8, 2018, throughout the city with the assistance of minors. These spot checks are conducted on Branson businesses holding liquor licenses to confirm that clerks are properly verifying the legal age of alcohol purchasers in compliance with the City of Branson’s liquor ordinance.

Of 96 businesses in the compliance check sample, 92 successfully passed the operation. This is a 96% compliance rate which is an improvement from the 94% compliance rate during our last alcohol compliance check in June 2018. There were four businesses that were found in violation of the ordinance. Those four include:

Burger Shack – 1946 W. 76 Country Blvd.

Backstage Café and Wine Bar – 214 W. Main St.

Price Chopper – 2210 W. 76 Country Blvd.

White Oak Station – 3200 Green Mountain Dr.

Citations were issued to individuals who were found to be in violation of the City ordinance. These violations are tracked. On the first offense, the business gets a warning letter. If a business gets three violations within three years their liquor license could be suspended.

The City of Branson holds regular “Responsible Liquor Selling” training sessions. Under city code, every business with a liquor license is required to undergo this mandatory “Regular Liquor Selling” training session. All staff members responsible for selling or serving liquor including managers, servers, bartenders and cashiers must attend the training within 60 days of hiring and every two years thereafter. This helps to mitigate the risks of selling to individuals under the age of 21 or intoxicated buyers. Although this class is designed to fulfill the training requirements for the City of Branson, servers, and cashiers from neighboring communities are also welcome to attend.
