Alcohol Compliance Checks Expanding to County

BPD badge

For the first time, the Branson Police Department and the Taney County Sheriff’s Office have partnered together, to conduct county-wide alcohol compliance checks.

The Branson Police Department has conducted these compliance checks every quarter since 2009 and has seen great success from this program. The Branson Police Department extended a partnership and resources to Taney County in order to expand the program. Taney County officials have shadowed Branson’s program and will now start building their own with help from the Branson Police Department.

The two departments worked together to conduct a combined compliance check on April 5 and 6, 2019 throughout the city and county with the assistance of minors. These checks are conducted on businesses holding liquor licenses to confirm that clerks are properly verifying the legal age of alcohol purchasers in compliance with the City of Branson and Taney County liquor ordinances.

The Taney County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Team (ADAPT) Coalition is proud to support this collaboration between the City of Branson and the Taney County Sheriff’s Department to conduct comprehensive compliance checks throughout the county.

“Alcohol compliance checks are an evidence-based strategy for community change that reduces underage drinking by restricting youth access to alcohol. Through this partnership, and the hosting of Responsible Beverage Service trainings throughout the county, we are confident that both the compliance check pass rate will continue to increase and underage drinking rates will continue to decrease,” said Taney County ADAPT program Director, Alaina Williams.

RESULTS:

Of 83 businesses in the City of Branson’s compliance check sample, 79 successfully passed the operation. There were four businesses that were found in violation of the ordinance. Those four include:

  • White Oak Station – 3200 Green Mtn. Dr.
  • Casey’s – 615 W Main St.
  • Rapid Robert’s – 432 State Hwy 248
  • Waxy O’Shea’s – 235 Branson Landing Blvd.

Out of 74 establishments checked in Taney County, there were 12 violations. Those 12 include:

  • Smoker’s Outlet – 225 Cross Creek Blvd.
  • Sunfest Market – 225 Cross Creek Blvd.
  • Rapid Roberts -- 235 Laurel Rd. Ridgedale
  • Cedar Junction Store -- 1225 Ridgedale Rd. Ridgedale
  • Little Hacienda -- 9 Downing St. Hollister
  • Hollister Food Mart -- 1600 State Hwy BB Hollister

Citations were issued to individuals who were found to be in violation of alcohol ordinances. In the City of Branson, these violations are tracked. On the first offense, the business gets a warning letter. If a business gets three violations within three years their liquor license could be suspended.

The City of Branson holds regular “Responsible Liquor Selling” training sessions. Under city code, every business with a liquor license is required to undergo this mandatory training session. All staff members who sell or serve liquor including managers, servers, bartenders and cashiers must attend the training within 60 days of hiring and every two years thereafter. This helps to mitigate the risks of selling to individuals under the age of 21 or intoxicated buyers.
