Planning & Development Director resigns for private sector

Joel Hornickel

After 12 years with the City of Branson, Planning & Development Director, Joel Hornickel, has announced his resignation in order to pursue an exciting opportunity in the private sector.

Hornickel started with the City in 2009 as Senior Planner where he assisted with the creation of the Community Plan 2030, the City’s first true comprehensive plan. In 2014 Hornickel was promoted to Director of Planning & Development where he implemented several actions from the Community Plan 2030, including the update and modernization of all development related codes, managed the unveiling of the City’s online portal CitizenServe, to improve the efficiency of the city's development process, and oversaw $524.3 million in construction investment into the community.

While those few highlights speak for themselves, Hornickel’s contributions to the City of Branson are too numerous to list out. His improvements and accomplishments will leave a positive impact on our community for generations to come.

“I have appreciated the opportunity to serve the citizens, visitors and other stakeholders of the Community. It has been exciting to see Branson’s growth and progress over the past decade,” Hornickel said.

Hornickel’s last day at the City of Branson will be December 7, 2021, however, the City will begin immediately on performing a nationwide search to find a qualified successor. Planner, Jacob Phillips will lead the department on an interim basis until the position is filled.
